For a white, non-Muslim person to wear a hijab both in public and in the privacy of their home? I've done some research on this and what I found was that it wouldn't offend Muslims. Some reasons for this is because A) in some Islamic countries non-Muslim women are expected to wear one, B) there is a World Hijab Day which occurs every February 1 st where non-Muslims are encouraged to try wearing one for the day. While it is mandatory in those Islamic countries for women to wear them due to religious reasons. In the West, we have a choice to wear it if we so choose to. One person who is an expert regarding hijabs told me that it shouldn't offend. There are risks, however, since you WILL likely offend the following groups. - White Nationalists
- Islamophobes
- Uneducated Social Justice Warriors (SJW)
My reasons for wanting to wear a hijab is because I suffer from premature male pattern baldness. I am seeking an alternative to a wig, but an alternative that could be worn with a wig at the same time. I am still contemplating hair plugs since I think my insurance provider will cover the cost if deemed medically necessary. So I pose this question to all of you, would someone who is white, non-Muslim, and transgender wearing a hijab be considered cultural appropriation?
